Mastering Change

We live in a fast changing world.

It can sometimes feel difficult - even overwhelming.

With the right skills, we can meet the impact of change positively.

Throughout our lives we are adjusting our daily lives to the impact of change.

Many times we do this habitually. We draw upon our current skills and past experiences. Often these are sufficient. Occasionally they are not.

Sometimes we deliberately plan change. This can often mean adapting or learning new skills.

Unexpected change can show up.

Sometimes this is exciting. It can also be difficult, challenging or painful.

Look back over the last twelve months.

What changes have affected your life?

Here are a few categories of potentially impactful change:

  • Pandemic
  • Financial
  • Career
  • Health
  • Fitness
  • Giving up a habit
  • Wanting to create a new habit
  • Leisure
  • Recreation
  • Sport
  • Property move
  • Working from home
  • Unemployment
  • New job
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Lingering grief
  • Traumatic experiences
  • Relationship (ongoing stresses, ending, starting)
  • Cost of living
  • Job requirements
  • New legislation
  • Retirement
  • Redundancy
  • Aging
  • "Mid-life crisis"
  • Workplace reoganisation
  • Travel arrangements
  • Changing technology
  • Broken promises
  • Self sabotage
  • Procrastination
  • Unexpected obstacles to progress
  • Dips in motivation
  • Road works
  • Seasonal
  • Availability of goods
  • Shopping patterns.
  • the list goes on and on....

The truth is that most of us still apply the same strategies we have always used to deal with such change.

When these prove insufficient, stress, worry, anger, depression can often be symptoms that new approaches are needed.
